The purpose of the FESTO solenoid valve is to control the switch of liquid and gas pipelines, which is a two position DO control. This valve is usually used to regulate small pipelines. On the other hand, electric valves are designed to provide analog regulation in medium-flow liquid, gas and wind system pipelines, and are controlled by AI. Electric valves can also act as two position switch controls in the management of large valves and air systems.
ELECTROMAGNETIC VALVES
It is important to point out that electromagnetic valves are limited in their use, as they can only be used as switch signals for DO control and to regulate small pipeline flows, typically DN50 and below. In fact, their use is rare in larger pipelines and air systems. In contrast to a motor-driven electric valve, an electromagnetic valve is activated by a coil and, therefore, can only function in the on or off states. When switching, the action time of an electromagnetic valve is short, which makes it ideal for specific applications, but not suitable for others.
ELECTRIC VALVES
Electric valves are much more versatile when compared to electromagnetic valves. One of the main differences lies in terms of the way their drive operates. In the case of an electric valve, the drive is generally achieved by a motor, allowing a certain amount of time to simulate the opening or closing action according to the AI feedback signals provided. Moreover, electric valves can be controlled by DO or AO and are frequently used in larger pipelines and air systems. Additionally, they can be adjusted to work in different scenarios thanks to their modifiable opening or closing time. For instance, electric ball valves are known for having a greater flow coefficient compared to a 25 caliber solenoid valve.
The FESTO solenoid valve has several key features:
When selecting solenoid valves, it is important to consider the type of power supply being used. AC power supply is generally more convenient to access. It is important to choose the appropriate AC or DC valve based on voltage specifications. Priority should be given to using AC220V over DC24V. Additionally, the power supply voltage should be within a certain range of tolerance, typically around +10% for AC and ±10% for DC. If it exceeds the tolerance, voltage stabilization measures must be taken or special orders must be made. It is also important to select the rated current and power consumption based on the power supply capacity, paying attention to the high VA value during AC starting.
When selecting solenoid valves, it is important to consider the environment in which they will be used. Maximum and minimum temperatures should be within the allowable range, and if there are any deviations, special orders should be made. In environments with high relative humidity and water droplets or rain, waterproof solenoid valves should especially be considered. For environments with frequent vibrations, bumps, and impacts, special varieties such as marine solenoid valves may be necessary. In corrosive or explosive environments, priority should be given to selecting corrosion-resistant materials based on safety requirements. When space is limited, a multifunctional solenoid valve may be a convenient option for online maintenance.
It is crucial to select the appropriate solenoid valve based on the media being used. Different types of solenoid valves should be selected for gas-liquid or mixed states. The medium temperature should also be within the allowable range of the solenoid valve, otherwise it may damage the coil or sealing components, negatively impacting the service life. Additionally, the viscosity of the medium should be below 50cSt, and if it exceeds this specification and the diameter is less than 15mm, then a high viscosity solenoid valve should be selected. If the medium is not very clean, it is recommended to install a backwash filter valve in front of the solenoid valve. If the medium flows in a directional manner and backflow is not allowed, then a different solenoid valve may be necessary.
